Welcome back to ZarZou blog!

It is not easy to determine your skin type just by using your touch and sight sense when the truth is your skin can change according to the environment and lifestyle too. You might think you have dry skin or oily skin but actually, you can also have both at the same type and this is what we call as COMBINATION SKIN. So, today our entry is curated for those who are asking for the best skincare products for combination skincare but remember, this is just a guide. Only your skin knows what works the best for your skin. Listen to your skin, okay?

What is Combination Skin?

For combination skin, the best way to treat your skin is to give the right amount of moisturization and at the same time, able to control excess sebum production on your skin. Usually, people with combination skin will have oily T-zone and dry patches at the cheek area.

If you notice your skin looks almost like this, most probably you have COMBINATION SKIN. For combination skin, we would say it’s quite hard to balance both of these at the same time because you actually need both skincare from oily and dry skin to cater your skin needs.

Note: To confirm your skin type, please do skin analysis at a medispa and dermatologist

Ultimate Tips & Guide: Skincare Routine for Combination Skin

AM Skincare Routine

For your morning routine, the best way is to maintain using hydrating products. As during the morning, our skin tends to produce more sebum, it is best for you to boost your hydration game to balance the sebum production.

  1. Hydrating cleanser – Cleanser with hydrating effect, be it gel or cream form, it’s up to your preference as long as it’s hydrating and won’t leave your skin tight and dry after cleansing
  2. Hydrating toner/serum – You can either use face mist, toner or essence that can deliver instant hydration if your skin feels tight right after cleansing. Usually, even when you don’t feel dry, you still need hydration to make sure your skin barrier can perform better. Apply more at your cheek area because combination skin tends to have dry patches on these area.
  3. Brightening serum – Vitamin C serum is a great skincare for a glowing skin and this ingredient is best paired with sunscreen in the morning to boost UV photoprotection.
  4. Gel-based moisturiser – Since morning is the time where your sebum will be at the highest production and you tend to be working under sunlight, choosing a lightweight gel-based moisturiser will be a good option! If you use cream-based moisturiser, you are actually one step ahead to get sweat easily.
  5. Sunscreen – Wear and reapply sunscreen every 2-3 hours to ensure enough UV protection. Just use any sunscreen that your skin favours but for sensitive and acne-prone skin, opt for physical sunscreen only.

PM Skincare Routine

After you’ve been outdoor or working all day long, first thing first, of course you need skincare products that can help to effectively remove your makeup, sunscreen and other impurities without stripping your skin’s natural oil. Since at night, you tend to be indoor, our skincare should be focusing more on repairing and moisturizing. Your sleep time will be the period where your skin starts to repair but you still cannot forget to include hydrating products since our skin tends to lose moisture at night.

  1. Double Cleanser – Do we need the reasons for this? This method is a game-changer for a clean skin after so much impurities sitting on your face including makeup and sunscreen particles. Remove them or they might clog your pores during your sleeping time!
  2. Exfoliating Toner (twice a week) – Although it can be used daily, do apply two to three times only a week to see your skin’s reaction. If your skin can tolerate, proceed to daily PM routine. Your skin can naturally shed dead skin cells but you might need exfoliator to ease the process.
  3. Spot Treatment – If you have acne, night is the best to spot treat. Acne patch could be your saviour to flatten your acne too! Recommendation: COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch
  4. Cream-Based Moisturiser – Since night will be the time where you stay indoor, you won’t expose yourself to the sunlight. This is the perfect time to apply thicker moisturizer to the dry patches to moisturize your skin.
  5. Face Oil/Sleeping Mask – Face Oil helps smoothening skin texture but the best trick is to mix face oil with moisturizer for smoother skin. Sleeping mask helps to deeply hydrate our skin during sleeping than a regular moisturizer can do.

CLEANSING OIL/BALM

  1. Hada Labo Gokujyun Moisturizing Cleansing Oil
  2. Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil

Follow with any gentle cream or gel cleanser (NOT EXFOLIATING CLEANSER) that won’t strip your skin’s natural oil. If you want to use exfoliating cleanser, you can skip using exfoliating toner for your PM routine to avoid over-exfoliating.
